[Superseded]Personal flotation devices — Type 2
Specifies requirements for Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) which are intended to assist flotation during short-term immersion in sheltered waters during daylight hours. Such PFDs were previously known as 'buoyancy vests' and are intended to be worn aboard pleasure boats and when participating in aquatic sports such as canoeing, board sailing, water skiing and the like. Adults' and children's PFDs are covered in body mass ranges from 10 kg up. In-water performance tests are included in appendices. Common requirements for PFDs are specified in AS 2259.
